Summary
The sorptivesensor response has been studied during a transient water vapor transportthrough packaging foils in a double-chamber measuring system. An equationdescribing the time function of the response inertia of the sensor was derived. This equation has the form of a difference of exponential function. Thearguments of the function are: the time of permeation and water vaporpermeability. The parameter characterizing the packaging foil under theexperimental conditions is the time of the maximum delay of the sensorresponse. A straight line with a slope of -1 was found to link the time of themaximum delay of the sensor response with the water vapor permeability. Theprinciples of the determination of water vapor permeability through packagingfoils have been developed from this relationship.
