Summary

Azobisisobutyronitrile-initiated radical polymerization of poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl methacrylate) and poly(2-acryloyloxyethyl methacrylate) was studied in dilute dioxane solutions. Polymerization rate, molecular weight and molecular weight distribution were studied in relation to multimonomer's molecular weight (13,500—46,500) (Figs. 1—3) and concentration (0.063—0.3785 mol/dm3) (Figs. 4, 5), and to reaction temperature (75°C or 85°C) (Figs. 6—8). The matrix mechanism of cyclopolymerization of the two multimonomers is discussed in relation to reaction conditions. The lower molecular weights of the starting multimonomers and the higher reaction temperature are favorable to an enhanced participation of intermolecular reactions.
