Synthesis of block terpolymer of the polyoxytetramethylene-block-(tetramethylene terephthalate)-block-laurolactam type

Synthesis of triblock ether-ester-amide condensation polymers has been studied.Polymerization conditions were established and blocks of oligo(laurolactam) having molecular weights (M) of 1000, 2000, and 4000 were prepared.Terpoly(ether-ester-amides) comprising a soft oligo(oxytetramethylene) (PTMO) block, M = 650—2900, a rigid oligo(tetramethylene terephthalate) (PBT) block, M = 330—3080, and a rigid oligo(laurolactam) (PA-12) block were studied. The course of the condensation polymerization leading to the block terpolymer was investigated in relation to the molecular weights of the PTMO,PBT and PA-12 blocks. Terpolymers can be prepared, widely varying in the contents of these blocks.
