Styrene emission during the manufacture of polyester resin laminates

Styrene emission has been measured during the lamination conducted by various procedures with the aid of several types of Polimal resins at laboratory workplace simulating an industrial workplace. Prediction of styrene emission during the manufacture of polyester resin laminates has been discussed. The methodology described consists of: measuring the instantaneous emission of styrene from polyester resins, prediction of styrene emission (for a given process and resin used, temperature of the lamination process and thickness of the finished laminate), and prediction of the probability of exceeding maximum permissible concentrations of styrene at industrial workstands. Empirical formulae derived for prediction of temporary styrene emission during laminating procedures according to various Technologies give results coinciding with the results of direct measurements of emission at the workplaces.
