Summary

A computer program is presented to simulate a single-screw extrusion process (involving the use of conventional and nonconventional screw types). The program enables pressure and temperature profiles, solid bed profile and power consumption by the extruder to be predicted. The simulation parameters include the material properties of the polymer to be extruded, the screw, hopper and die geometries, and the operating conditions. Illustrative simulations are shown to demonstrate the calculation potential of the program (Figs. 3-8 ).
