Summary

Extrusion-die design problems are presented and a solution of the single-screw extrusion model is given to describe the operation of the single-screw extruder-die system. A computer program was developed to simulate the flow of a polymer through various exit cross-section die types: (i) circular, (ii) slit, (iii) annular, (iv) rectangular, (v) semicircular, (vi) ellipsoidal, etc. Pressure and temperature profiles, flow rate, shear rate and residence time were predicted. The pressure profile was simulated as a function of mass flow rate and die temperature.
