A method for the investigation of diffusion of low-molecular-weight substances in elastomers

Summary

A method for the determination of diffusion coefficients oflow-molecular-weight substances in elastomers has been developed on the base of absorption kinetics. The method has been tested for decalin and di-n-butylphthalate in natural rubber at 323 K. All experimental values of parameter Ft= (mt-mo (m-mo) as a function of time can be used for calculations, where mo, mt and m are the initial mass of the sample, the mass after absorption at time t and the mass of the elastomer samples wollen by the migrating substance at the equilibrium, respectively. Diffusion coefficients are determined from a slope of the straight Line. The results indicate that the accuracy of described ih high er than that of other methods used up to now.
