A modified catalyst for the polymerization of olefins

X-ray methods, thermal analysis and IR-spectroscopy have been used in the studiem of chemical and structural changes ta king place during heating of a MgCl2·2.1 EtOH adduct at temperatures in the rangeof 25—680°C. It has been found that when using this adduct as a support it is possible to prepare a titanium-magnesium catalyst for the polymerization ofolefins. This catalystis characterized by a highly developer surface area and by a Poros structure similar to that of catalysts formed during milling of anhydrous MgCl2 with a TiCl2 ethyl benzoate complex.
