Addition of oxiranes to hydroxymethyl derivatives of melamine.
Part I. Preparation of polyetherols
The conditions of addition of some selected oxiranes (ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, epichlorohydrine) to a mixture of hydroxymethylmelamines obtained in the reaction of melamine with formaldehyde have been determined. In dependence on the oxirane used and molar ratio of reagents products of different properties have been obtained, namely crosslinked polymers or soluble polymers suitable for the synthesis of thermally stable polyurethane foams. It has been found that addition reaction Is accompanied by a side reaction of hydroxymethyl groups condensation.
