Addition of oxiranes to the hydroxymethyl derivatives of melamine.
Part III. Reactions of N,N'-bis(hydroxymethyl)melamine with an excess of oxiranes
The preparation of N,N'-bis(hydroxymethyl)melamine (BHMM) has been described. Polyetherols containing thermally stable s-triazine ring have been obtained in the reaction of BHMM with an excess of oxiranes of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide. Some physical and physical-chemical properties as well as their chemical structure have been determined. Besides the reaction of addition of oxiranes to BHMM there has been observed a side-reaction of condensation of hydroxymethyl groups in BHMM resulting in undesirable crosslinked product.
