Summary

The results of studies on ageing of elements of a block of sand stabilized with a urea-formaldehyde resin in the shape of an infinite plate under conditions of mass exchange due to flow of water have been presented. The changes in the concentration of hydronium ions and free formaldehyde as well as in the structure of cured resin compression strength and filtration coefficients of stabilized sand have been described. The microstructure of this sand has also been determined by the fracture surfaces under electron microscope. Conclusions concerning the stability of soil reinforced and sealed with urea-formaldehyde resins can be drawn from these investigations.
