An analysis of the feasibility of plastics application in the construction of clima-convectors meeting ecological requirements

Summary

The possibility of plastics application in the construction of fantype heat exchanger (FHE) systems is discussed, in particular the possibility of using thermoplastics in two the most frequent subassemblies of the FHE systems, namely heat exchangers and impellers of cross-flow fans. After an analysis of several hundred polymers from polyacetal and polyamide groups, polyoxymethylene [POM, trade name Ultraform (BASF), Maranyl (ICI), Grilon (EMS) and Vestamid (Hiils) were chosen. A solution of air conditioning system designed with elements made of plastics that meet environment al and ecological requirements is proposed. Use of ammonia as a direct coolant is suggested, what corresponds to the current trends in respect to clima-convectors. The economical advantages resulting from application of plastics in heat exchangers construction have been also estimated.
