An analysis of the solution-precipitation copolymerization

of 1,3,5-trioxane with 1,3-dioxolane with the application of the statistical method

of the design of experiments and of the regression analysis

By means of the regression analysis and with the application of the statistical method of the design of experiments the forms of the regression equations have been determined for the description of relationships between the yield and rate of copolymerization of 1,3,5-trioxane with 1,3—dioxolane, melt flow index of the copolymer and the content of unstable fraction in it on the one side and the formulation parameters of the polymerization process on the other side. These formulation parameters comprise: initial content of cyclohexane, 1,3-dioxolane, catalyst and modifier in the reaction mixture as well as the temperature of initiation. It has been found that the melt flow index, i.e. the molecular mass of the copolymer is independent of the formulation parameters studied. On the other dependent variables in the range of independent variables studied the biggest influence has the degree on dilution of the reaction mixture with cyclohexane, whereas the independent variable which has the lowest effect on the course of copolymerization is the temperature of initiation.
