An evaluation of order in crystalline regions of poly(ethylene terephthalate)

X-ray method has been applied to investigate the perfectness of order of macromolecules in crystalline regions of PET samples in the form of fibres differing in the degree of stretching. By the thermographis DSC method the temperature range of melting, ΔT, and heat of melting, ΔH, have been determined for each sample and quotients of these two values, ΔТ/ΔН, calculated. The results of thermographic determinations have been statistically correlated with the results of X-ray method and a linear relationship between the X-ray values of order index and values of ΔТ/ΔН-quotients has been found. Taking into consideration this fact a mathematical relationship has been derived for the calculation of the order index in crystalline regions from the values determined from a DSC-thermoeram.
