An extraction-spectrophotometric method for the determination of esters of aromatic carboxylic acids as components
of propylene polymerization catalysts
The propylene-polymerization Ti-Mg catalysis were decomposed by dissolution in aqueous ca. 2% sulphuric acid. An aromatic ester, a component of the catalyst, was extracted with hexane from the aqueous chase and determined subsequently in the hexane extract by UV spectrophotometry. The conditions of extraction of ethyl benzoate and dibutyl phthalate were given. The precision of the method was estimated with respect to ethyl benzoate over the range of concentrations from 9.6·10-6 to 1.0·10-4 g/cm3 and with respect to dibutyl phthalate over 1.8·10-5 to 3.8·10-4 g/cm3.
