The basic relationships for kinetic interpretation of thermal degradation of polymers by means of some thermal analysis methods, i.e., thermogravimetry (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were presented. In dependence on the way of evaluation of kinetic parameters, i.e. of activation energy, order of reaction, and pre-exponential factor, adivision into differential and integral methods was made. The differential methods most commonly used for investigation of polymer degradation were presented and the so-called special methods were distinguished. A special attention was paid to the importance of a correct kinetic description for the understanding of the course of polymer degradation. The factors influencing the values of kinetic parameters were also named.
