BF3-catalyzed reactions of epoxide compounds with aromatic amines

Summary

The kinetics of the BF3·OEt2-catalyzed model two-step addition reaction of phenylglycidyl ether to anilinę in chlo- robenzene and butanol solutions in a temperature range of 60—100°C has been inyestigated. N-(2-hydroxy-3-phenoxypropyl)aniline is the product ot the first step of addition and n,n-di-(2-hydroxy-3-phenoxypropyl)aniline is that of the se- cond step of aadition. Mhe rate constants and energies of activity for the reactions of both steps have been determin- ed. It has been shown that BF3·OEt2 is an efficient catalyst of the reaction under study and its efficiency is much higher in a protonless solvent (chlorobenzene) than in butanol.
