A review covering graft copolymerization of vinyl polymers onto gelatin, involving a redox system containing peroxodisulfates, cerium (IV) salts and H2O2/ascorbic acid and intended to prepare hydrophilic products endowed w ith film-forming, binding and fiber-forming properties. Methods are described how to initiate the copolymerization of this protein. Trials are described intended to establish the effect of reaction conditions on the course of the reaction and to prove that chemical bonds have been formed between the protein backbones and the grafted side chains of synthetic polymers.
