Calibration of the GPC system for molecular characteristics of UHMWPE

A modified gel permeation chromatography (GPC)procedure has been described for molecular characteristics of ultra-highmolecularweight polyethylene (UHMWPE). UHMWPE synthesized on a superactive MgCl2 (THF)2 /TiCl4 /Al(C2H 5 )2Cl catalyst was investigated. Selection ofreliable К and a values for the universal calibration by using thepolydispersity exponent apx in the extended Mark—Houwinkequation was emonstrated. Comparison ofthe Mv-values obtained by GPC with those of the off-line viscometry wasused to check whether the calibration curve was correct. The possibility ofapplying the broad standards calibration, using commercial PE standard (Mw= 102 000) and UHMWPE sample prepared and characterized earlierby GPC and viscometry (Mv ca. 2,4106), was confirmed.
