Changes in photoluminescence parameters of unsaturated polyester resin during its aftercuring

The results of studies on the changes in photoluminescent properties of the Polish unsaturated polyester resin Polimal-109 during its longterm aftercuring (till 144 days) at room temperature have been presented and discussed. The measurements have been carried out by the method of counting single-photon pulses. An outline of the appropriate research apparatus (single-photo pulse phosphoroscope) has been presented. It has been found that the participation of the fast-variable component of photoluminescence decay is high and the constant of its decay increases in the course of the aftercure process. The relative luminescencje intensity reveals an extremal dependence on the aftercure time, its maximum corresponding to the time of about 30 days. These results, though difficult to explanation based on structural changes accompanying the curing process of the resin, can be utilized in the control of manufacturing processes in which unsuturated polyesters take part.
