Summary

The precursor polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibres obtained under various technological conditions have been characterized, with particular attention paid to the features important for the subsequent use of any precursor in the carbonization process. The uniformity and strength properties of PAN fibres have been determined and an analysis of the dependence of the final carbon fibres on the structure and characteristics of the precursor fibres has been carried out. On the basis of these results, the criteria of PAN-fibres evaluation have been formulated for fibres intended for carbonization.
