Chemical recycling of waste saturated polyesters and urethane polymersto yield raw materials to produce polyurethanes
Polimery 1999, No 1, 1
Chemical recycling techniques of waste saturated polyesters (mainly PET) and of waste polyurethanes to produce polyurethanes are reviewed. The most frequent technique used for polyesters involves glycolysis with ethylene, diethylene, propylene or dipropylene glycol. The recyclate is used to make polyurethane foams, elastomers and sealants. Waste polyurethanes also can be degraded byglycolysis or alcoholysis with alkanolamines and the recyclates reprocessed ina similar manner. Most techniques described have been applied industrially. There processed-polyurethane articles have good properties and are cheap.
