Summary

Recycling of plastics is reviewed with particular reference to car plastics and other car parts. Research and design approaches to recycling are characterized, intended for developing a mathematical model or a theoretical design of a comminuter. Recycling can be effective only when efficient comminuters are available. Design features of comminuter's working assemblies are described in terms of the efficiency of comminution of plastics to be recycled. Comminution performance is characterized by service indices. Extremum values of service indices are established (Tables 3, 4) for design solutions of a low-rate multi-disk comminuter to be used to comminute end-of-life polyethylene tubes at rates of 2.2–4.5 m/s.
