Summary

The results of studies on activated carbon, grade CWZ-3, of Polish origin, with surface modified at the temperature of (873K by the action of sulfurating substances (sulfur vapours, CS2 nad SO2) have been presented. It has been found that the surface compounds of sulfur with carbon exhibit high stability. In the next stage, rheometric studies on mixtures of carbon preparations with modified surface with butadiene-styrene copolymer before and after vulcanization as well as measurements of viscoelastic properties of vulcanizates have been carried out. It has been found that the degree of reinforcing action of the filler depends on the type of sulfurating substance used. The higher is the amount of sulfur bound with the carbon surface, the lower is the hydrogen content and the potentials of powder electrodes.
