Summary

A general chracteristics and classification of composite materials comprising an electroconductive polymer (Pp) and an electroinsulating polymer (Pi) has been presented. Various concepts of the synthesis of this-type materials have been presented. They include: electrochemical and chemical synthesis of Pp (mainly polypyrrole and polythiophene) in a Pi matrix, a simultaneous synthesis of both polymer matrices, application in the composite synthesis of soluble Pp and Pi. The structure as well as mechanical, optical, electrical and electrochemical properties of composite materials have also been discussed.
