Summary

The emulsion copolymerization of styrene and calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium acrylates has been car­ried out. The influence of the amount of acrylic acid salts (AMe) in the feed on the yield and some properties of co­polymers has been investigated. It has been found that a decrease in process yield with the increase in AMe con­centration in the feed depends on the cation in AMe in the following order: strontium ≈ calcium < magnesium < sodium ≈ potassium. Some mechanical properties of copolymers containing small amounts of AMe are very similar to those of poly­styrene and independent of the kind of Me in AMe.
