Summary

The processes of degradation crosslinking in PVC and methods of intended preparation of crosslinked PVC either by irradiation (γ, UV, accelerated electrons) or by chemical methods have been discussed. From among the chemical methods, crosslinking of PVC with organic peroxides, and—in more detail—in the presence of a system composed of tetramethylthiuram disulphide—zinc oxide has been characterized. For the latter case, the mechanism of this process and the role player by the individual components of the crosslinking system Has been presented. The possibilities of eliminating the undesirable degradation crosslinking to the advantage of the intended crosslinking have been deliberated.
