Summary

An apparatus and methodology for determination of permeability coefficients of carbon dioxide through paint coatings used for anticorrosive protection of concrete was described. Results of determinations of permeability coefficient of C02 and the diffusion resistance of coatings prepared from some selected water-thinnable paints based on polymer dispersions as well as from pure polymer dispersions confirmed the utility of the apparatus. Following polymers were used: an acrylic polymer, an acrylic-styrene copolymer, and a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate/ethylene terpolymer. Properties of these coatings were evaluated by means of the Klopfer-Engelfried criterion.
