Determination of the coagulation rate of chitosan spinning solutions during the fibre formation process
Preparation of spinning solutions from chitosan manufactured by the Sea Fisheries Institute (Gdynia) has been studied and the coagulation rate of chitosan solutions in aqueous 2.5—7.0% acetic acid spun into alkaline (4—9% NaOH) coagulation bath was determined at 25—65°C. The experiments were conducted by following a planar model system by the use of a suitably adapted profile microscope. The effect of the coagulation parameters of chitosan solutions on the fibre spinning process and properties of fibres was analysed.
