Diels-Alder adducts of terpenic hydrocarbons as substrates in the synthesis of hardeners and epoxide resins

Summary

The method of separating Diels-Alder adducts with maleic anhydride of terpenie hydrocarbons present in common turpentine has been described. Adducts of α-terpinene and α-phellandrene with maleic anhydride have been separated and, after being modified with glycerine, used as hardeners for epoxide resins. In a further stage, from these separated adducts, epoxide resins have been synthetized of the glycidyl ester type. These resins have been crosslinked with anhydride of cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylic acid. Such hardened compositions have been studied by the methods of thermal analysis. It has been found that they exhibit considerable resistance and impact strength.
