Dynamic mechanical properties of polyurethane/chlorinated polyisobutylene blends

Summary

Homogeneous blends of rigid segments of polyurethane with chlorinated polyisobutylene have been prepared thanks to the formation of a quarternary ammonium salt with the participation of nitrogen atom of polyurethane and chlorine atom of the chloromethyl group of chlorinated polyisobutylene. The measurements of the dynamic mechanical properties with torsional pendulum revealed the effect of the composition and of the ageing temperature of the samples on the shifts in the glass transition points of the rigid and of the soft phase in the blends, the ageing temperature being connected with the degree of conversion in the quarternization reaction.
