Effect of the reaction medium on the copolymerization of vinyl chloride and isobuylvinyether
The course of the free—radical copolymerization of vinyl chloride with isobutylvinylether in bulk, in xylene solution and in emulsion has been investigated. The highest K-value of the copolymer has been obtained in the case of emulsion copolymerization. The vinyl chloride content in copolymer depends also on the method of copolymerization and under conditions of a specified composition of comonomers mixture in the reaction medium this content decreases in the followin g sequence: bulk > emulsion > solution. In this last method, an increase in the share of xy lene in the reaction mixture results in a decrease of yield and К -value of the copolymer and In a decrease of v iny l chloride content in it. The reactivity coefficients have been determined, they are: r1 = 0.31 ± 0.02 (isobutylvinylether) and r2 = 1.8 ± 0.1 (vinyl chloride).
