Electron accelerators as applied to radiation-induced modification of polymers

Summary

Modem accelerators have been characterized in radiation-induced polymer modification applications, in which electron beams are accelerated to energies of 0.15 to 10 MeV and powers of up to 500 kW. Major technical specifications of the accelerators and some world's main manufacturers of the equipment are listed in Table 1. The domestic equipment used for radiation chemistry and irradiation purposes has been characterized (Table 3). Economical aspects (e.g., investment and exploitation costs) of electron-beam radiation treatment of polymers have been discussed.
