Summary

The effect of the amount (1.0—3.0 wt %) of bentonites modified withquaternary ammonium or phosphonium salts on the properties of epoxy resin/glassfibre composites was studied. It was found that the mechanical properties andflame resistance of the laminates filled with the modified bentonites weresignificantly better than of laminates produced from an unfilled resin.Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM) studieswere also performed to investigate the adhesion between the laminatecomponents.
