Evaluation of the applicability of the shear strength test to the comparison

of the strength properties of adhesives for metals

Polimery 1984, No 7, 246

DOI: dx.doi.org/10.14314/polimery.1983.246

Summary

The applicability of the shear strength test according to the Polish Standard PN-69/C-89300 to the comparison of the strength properties of adhesives has been evaluated. It has been shown that specimens bonded with an overlap below some limiting length cannot serve fo r a comparison of the strength properties of adhesives differing in the values of their modulus of rigidity. The change in the value and character of the tear loads present in one-overlap specimens in dependence on the overlap length and load value makes the results of such tests useless in the comparison of strength properties of adhesives.
