Experimental methods for the assessment of the extrusion process quality
Criteria for the assessment of the efficiency of extrusion process were given and a review of the main experimental methods used for the evaluation of the extrusion process quality was presented. Among others, the methods for measuring the following characteristic parameters of the extrusion process were discussed: heat streams; distribution of temperature, pressure, material's residence times in the extruder; degree of intermixing; and a possible degradation of material in'the plasticizing zone. A more detailed treatment was devoted to the methods for assessment of the efficiency of the shear and dispersion mixing. Some problems associated with the utilization of the up-to-date apparatus and measuring equipment in the studies of extrusion process were discussed.
