Fire properties of polymers by thermovision method (English version)
The thermal and fire resistance of polystyrene, chloropolystyrenes containing 36 wt.% of Cl inaliphatic part (PR3), chloropolystyrene containing 64 wt.% of Cl mainly ataromatic rings (PI) and copolymers of styrene with: N-phenylmaleimide (PF), N-o-chlorophenylmaleimide (PClo) and N-p-chlorophenylmaleimide (PClp) was investigated by a new thermovision method. The results were compared with the thermal resistance of the polymers measured by TG and D TA methods. Both methods prove that the thermal and fire properties of polymers containing chlorine depend both on the amount of chlorine atoms and on their position in the polymer molecules. The thermovision investigations give a lot of new information on kinetics and mechanism of combustion processes of polymers, notavailable by other methods.
