Summary

The actual concepts concerining the determination of the immediate and longterm static strength of lap and heading adhesive joints. The principal mathematical relationships used in engineering computations as well as the geometrical conditions under which the joint failure is due to shear have been given. The principles of utilizing the connection factor (de Bruyn) in forecasting the static strength of adhesive joints have been defined. Moreover, there are also given the fundamental relationships pertaining to the application of the elements of fracture mechanics in forecasting the structural load capacity with the consideration of internal stresses. A statistical method fo r the determination of the factor of safety of adhesive-jointed structures has also been presented. This relationship can be of great practical importance.
