Formation of cross-linked structures in elastomers during vulcanization
The general mechanism of the cross-linking process of elastomers during their vulcanization has been presented and the course of the peroxide and sulphur vulcanization as well as cross-linking of blends of elastomers (mainly for the example of a blend of polyisoprene and chlorobutyl rubber) discussed. The importance of such charactericstics of vulcanizing systems, as the duration of the induction period and curing rate in the main stage of vulcanization, has been pointed out. The experimental data confirming the impact of this characteristics on the structure and properties of cross-linked vulcanizates formed both by individual elastomers and their blends have been presented.
