Fourier transform – nuclear magnetic resonance in the analysis of composition of styrene

– methylstyrene and methyl acrylate – methyl methacrylate copolymers

The procedure of a quantitative analysis of the compositions of two types of copolymers composed of mers with a very similar. structure, namely those of styrene — a-ethylstyrene and methyl acrylate — methyl methacrylate has been elaborated with the application of high-resolution Fourier-transform nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Three methods of read-out of the intensity of integral resonance bands of protons have been compared: from integral curve, from the .mass of sections under the curve of resonance bands (gravimetrically) and from the digital print-out. The results of the determination of composition of several samples of the above-mentioned copolymers differing in the initial ratio of comonomers have been presented.
