Heterogeneous ozonolysis of polyacetylene (in English)

Summary

PAC films prepared by three procedures [3] were cut into pieces, suspended in H20 and ozonolyzed with 03 (3%)—02 at 20°C for up to 100 h. Products were converted into volatiles to be analyzed by GC. High-quality РАС decomposed completely to H20 and C02 by reason of minor difference between carbon—carbon bond lengths and fortuitous addition of the ozone molecule. Defective РАС yielded products of splitting of the organic molecules at the double bond positions. By-products were detected and analyzed. Oxalic and succinic acids were found among the products. Route schemes to some products are detailed. Ozonolysis of poly(l,4-butadiene), carried out for comparison under similar conditions, gave succinic acid, in compliance with the general concept of ozonolysis.
