Initiation of solid-state polyreaction. Part II. Thermal initiation
The application of the thermal initiation method in the solid-state polymerization of various groups of monomers has been reviewed. The hitherto proposed initiation mechanisms have been presented and the physical conditions of thermal polymerizations discussed. The structure of polymers formed has been characterized. Examples of several thermally-initiated solid-state polycondensation processes used in the preparation of polypeptides, aliphatic polyamides and poly(p-benzamides) have been described.
