Insoluble sulfur made in Poland (English version)
Polimery 1994, No 3, 170

DOI: dx.doi.org/10.14314/polimery.1994.170

The new Polish vulcanization agent — insoluble sulfur (IS) — was evaluated. Physical properties of IS metthe ISO/DP 8332 quality requirements. Particular attention was paid to the thermal and chemical stability of IS. Some unconventional tests together with standard methods for the determination of IS reversion resistance were used. The influence of chemical compounding ingredients and processing conditions of rubber compounds on IS stability was tested. Some rubber ingredients cause decomposition of IS, so in practice they should not be allowed to contact with IS. IS deeply reverts also during mixing of rubber compound at high temperature proportionally to its concentration. Vulcanization characteristics of rubber compounds and physical properties of vulcanizates show the same crosslinking efficiency for both types of sulfur: soluble and insoluble.
