Summary

The results on grafting ethyl acrylate onto suspension-polymerized poly(vinyl chloride), S-60 type, in a water suspension, have been presented. The reactions have been initiated with dibenzoyl peroxide and dilauroyl peroxide The effect of the amount of monomer, temperature and time of reaction and the amount of initiator on the yield of grafting and conversion degree of monomer has been investigated. Grafting in a water suspension gives a high yield of grafting and a high degree of monomer conversion. It has been found that the grafting yield increases with the increase in the temperature of reaction and decreases with the increase in the amount of ethyl acrylate in relation to PVC. In the range studied the effect of the amount of initiator on the grafting yield was small. Higher yields of grafting were obtained in reactions initiated with dilauroyl peroxide.
