Summary

Basing on the results of recent studies concerning mainly the situation in the Federal Republic of Germany, the ecological hazards connected with the processes of PVC manufacturing and processing as well as with the utilization, disposal or recycling of PVC scrap and waste materials are analyzed. The development of new processing aids (stabilizers, plasticizers, pigments) for PVC and the initiatives of the PVC manufacturers and processing companies in the field of the assortment recycling of PVC waste materials as well as administrative and legislative means limiting the permitted levels of emission of noxious substances in the atmosphere were presented. Much attention was paid to the actual state of investigations concerning the emission of dioxins in the processes of PVC waste combustion.
