Low-pressure polymerization of ethylene with a n-butyllithium/tetramethylethylenediamine complex
The effect of temperature in the range from -10 to +80°C on the course of ethylene polymerization in the presence of a catalytic system composed of n-butyllithium and tetramethylethylenediamine has been investigated. An increase of the initial rate of polymerization and a reduction of the period of catalyst activity with an increase of temperature has been observed. The optimum temperature range, in which the polymer yield reaches maximum, was 50 - 60 °C. Polyethylene waxes with molecular masses up to Mn 2500 have been obtained.
