Magnesium hydroxide – a new agent mitigating smoke generation by unsaturated polyester resins
The smoke generation properties of the Polish-made terephthalic polyester resins Polimal 109 and Polimal 147 containing 30 parts of Аl(ОН)3 or Mg(HO)2, per 100 parts of resin have been investigated. Specimens cut out of cred laminates containing about 30% glass-fibre mat have been used in these studies. It has been show that the addition of Mg(HO)2 is more advantageous than that of Аl(ОН)3 both inreducing the maximum coefficient of contrast attenuation and in lowering the average rate of changes in the maximum coefficient of contrast attenuation.
