Manufacturing process and properties of laminates containing metallized thermoplastics films

The results of research concerned with the manufacturing process of vacuum-metallized oriented polyester and polypropylene film, extruded Flat polyamide-6 film and tubular PE-LD films have been discussed. This research Has been carried out by the Packaging Research and Development Centre and by the Nitron-Erg Pilot Plant in Mikołow. The metallic layer has been protected by laminating with a PE-LD film. The optimation studies have been carried out at conditions of varying metallization rate and various rate of Al-wire supply. As criterion of film quality its barrier properties (decrease of permeability against water vapour and gases) have been taken and the effect of Al-layer thickness on this property established. The barrier properties of laminated films comprising various types of metallized films have been evaluated and application tests in some selected areas of applications (packaging of food, pharmaceutic products, plant-protection agents) carried out.
