Summary

Mathematical model has been presented for the melting zone in the extruder screw channel and a relevant computer program developed. Effects of the extrusion parameters (screw rotation velocity N and the depth of screw channel H in the design zone) on the melting process have been simulated as two options: traditional screw and a real screwdie system. The traditional screw simulation gave results differing from those of the screwdie simulation. Therefore, conclusions drawn from such simulations may be misleading for the designer.
