As a result of blending polystyrene with various types of commercial polycarbonates (Bistan AW, Makrolon 8320, Makrolon 8030), materials with a much higher temperature of thermal decomposition than that of the initial polystyrene have been obtained. The most efficient modifier was Makrolon 8320. The optimum conditions of the blending process have been established — they comprised heating during 5 hours at a temperature of 150°C of a mixture of polystyrene with 5% polycarbonate obtained by evaporation of solvents from a homogeneous solution of both polymers.
